Loving this time lapse piece from artist Phil Hansen of him creating a sculpture of Jimi Hendrix made entirely of colored matches and then lit aflame. Let me stand next to your fire! Have a good pyromaniacal holiday weekend!
I love when the stupidest ideas in the world become brilliant and lovely in all their addicting glory. Check out OM NOM NOM NOM, a site purely consisting of people putting eyes and maybe teeth on existing pictures and thh words "OM NOM NOM NOM" (a la Cookie Monster) as if subject matter were about to swallow up something. The more you click through, the more you are entertained by the simplest concept. Why must we who say we are creative overthink things and forget about how simple it may be to entertain for 10 minutes? On Nom Nom, I salute you.
Office Space trailer, re-cut as a thriller. Great job on this one I think. The music and scene selection are the key. I am not too fond of the font treatment, but I will overlook that.
The Miss Teen South Carolina deluge is beginning. Nothing like a nervous, not-so-smart, teen beauty queen's flub on national teevee to get the internets all in an a boil. Thanks to the gay cowboy for the first one!
If you are going to take the time to do all the costuming and the sets and plan it out, you can at least do a story behind it. I was really excited to see this live action Spy vs. Spy CGM short but in the end, I was disappointed.
I think one of the larger growth areas in the CGM/On-line video world is in niche user video sites. Youtube and Myspace have everything, a great mass of stuff so finding little gems takes a bit of work, but the randomness pays off. But if you are into a specific subject, then niche sites make alot of sense. Take BoardRideTV for example. A site focused on user vids of skateboarding, snowboarding and general x-gamish behaviors. If you are into that (and can get around the overuse of the fisheye lens effect), why not go to a place that aggregates it, comments on it and curates it for you. And if you are an advertiser, you know you have a committed user base, albeit smaller than the general one at the big sites. I think this will be an interesting category to keep an eye on, so stay tuned.
